Khazal jailed in Lebanon, bailed in Sydney
The Federal Attorney-General says Lebanese authorities are seeking the extradition of an Australian man who is currently facing a terrorism charge in New South Wales.
Bilal Khazal, who has been charged with facilitating terrorism, was awarded bail and will face a Sydney committal hearing in June.
But Philip Ruddock says he was today sentenced by a Beruit court to 15 years jail, without having to appear on charges of arranging false documents for another Australian who has been jailed in Lebanon.
Mr Ruddock says Mr Khazal will not be extradited until he has faced an Australian court.
"There has been a request by Lebanese authorities for his extradition, that's still being processed," he said.
"But obviously, in the meantime, him being the subject of charges here, then he would not be free to be extradited."
