SECURITY will be tight when Israeli President Moshe Katsav visits Australia next week, with protesters promising to picket his official functions.

The President has not previously visited Australia, and his trip is the first by an Israeli president since Chaim Herzog in 1986.
Australian security authorities are understood to have maintained the long-standing policy of banning the carrying of weapons by foreign guards protecting visiting officials.
But a spokeswoman for Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said security would be tight.
"The Australian Government is confident that it has put in place effective protective security arrangements for the president's visit, consistent with current threat levels," she said.
While Mr Katsav's visit has been widely welcomed by the Jewish community, a number of protest events have been planned.

The Stop the War Coalition is organising a candlelight vigil at Sydney Town Hall and a rally at Darling Harbour on Tuesday, the final day of Mr Katsav's visit to the city.
Protesters are also expected to picket a function at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne's St Kilda on March 3.
Head of the General Palestinian Delegation to Australia, Ali Kazak, said he knew of a number of planned demonstrations and empathised with the sentiment behind them.
"He is the president of a country which occupies someone else's country, oppressed an entire nation and who's ethnically cleansed 70 per cent of Palestinian people out of their towns and homes and villages," Mr Kazak said.
"He represents a regime which is one of the most oppressive regimes in our modern history."
The New Zealand Government cancelled Mr Katsav's visit after the Israeli Government declined to apologise over an attempt by two suspected Mossad agents to get a New Zealand passport.
Mr Kazak said it was too late to ban Mr Katsav's visit to Australia, but it should be recognised that Mossad operated in Australia as well.
"Those spies were spying on Australia and doing the same thing," he said.
Mr Kazak said the visit was an opportunity for the Howard Government to call on Israel to recognise Palestinian rights.
Mr Howard said in a statement he hoped the visit by Mr Katsav and his wife, Gila, would reaffirm the warm and long-standing friendship between Australia and Israel.
"I know that Australians will welcome President Katsav with the warmth for which they are renowned," he said.
Mr Katsav will visit Sydney on Monday and Tuesday to meet New South Wales Premier Bob Carr, business representatives and members of the city's Jewish community.
He will travel to Canberra on Wednesday for a lunch hosted by Mr Howard, and a state dinner with Governor-General Michael Jeffery.
Mr Katsav will also meet Opposition Leader Kim Beazley in Canberra.
He will travel to Melbourne on Thursday for meetings with Victorian Premier Steve Bracks, members of the Jewish community and children from Jewish schools.
