Gaddafi's son to buy Darling Point home

CHAUFFEUR-DRIVEN limousines, private jets, exclusive restaurants and VIP parties weren't the only things that bedazzled Al-Saadi Gaddafi on his visit to Australia.

Real estate sources say a harbourfront property is on the list of indulgences for the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi when he returns later in the year on business.

A spokesman said the 31-year-old took a shine to luxury apartments on the Darling Point peninsula and will be searching for accommodation before opening an investment office in Sydney.

The penthouse atop the Palazzo Adriano is on the market and, according to Caren Rudman, of Raine & Horne Double Bay, it's a residence befitting a foreign diplomat-cum-businessman.

The penthouse, occupying the entire top floor of a small block of four apartments, has an entertaining balcony and a roof terrace, both with harbour views.

"It's an amazing apartment, and I think it would be perfect for him because it's very private," Ms Rudman said.

"It's the only one with direct access from Darling Point Rd and direct lift access."

Mr Gaddafi flew out last week after a 12-day sport, trade and night-clubbing extravaganza.

In between canapes at Bondi Icebergs with Tom Jones, lunch at Otto and talks with Federal Government ministers, he didn't find time to play in either of the two games scheduled for Libya's national soccer team.

As well as captaining the team, Mr Gaddafi is chairman of the Libyan Football Federation and vice-chairman of Libya's Olympic Committee.

He is also a trade attache, and later this year will open the Sydney office of Lafico, the Libyan Government's investment arm.
