DARWIN'S Iraq-bound 1st Brigade is mourning the death of a fellow soldier in a crash on an outback road.
A military truck overturned near Barrow Creek north of Alice Springs as two soldiers were taking it to the Cultana training area in South Australia yesterday for an exercise.
No other vehicles were involved, the Army said today.
One soldier died at the scene, while another had a suspected broken arm and cuts.
He was in a stable condition, the Army said.
"The Army deeply regrets the death of one of our soldiers, and we will co-operate fully with the investigation into the cause of the accident," a statement said.
Investigations are underway by both the NT and Military police.
The NT road toll for 2005 now stands at five, one fewer than at the same time last year.
The Federal Government announced this week Australia would send 450 more troops to Iraq, most of them from Darwin's 1st Brigade.
