Student to stand trial on terrorism charge
A Sydney student has been ordered to stand trial in the Supreme Court on a terrorism-related charge.
Izhar Ul-Haque was arrested in April of last year.
The 22-year-old is charged with receiving training from a banned terrorist organisation.
Commonwealth prosecutors allege that Ul-Haque went to Pakistan in early 2003 and trained with the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba for several weeks.
In Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court today, Ul-Haque did not challenge any of the evidence put forward by the prosecution.
When asked if he would like to say anything in response to the charge, he said 'No'.
Magistrate Deborah Sweeney found there was enough evidence for the medical student to face a trial.
He will be arraigned in the Supreme Court on a date to be fixed.
